On Tuesday, November 9, at 15.30, Melle van der Goot will give a lecture on transportation in Fryslân from 1516 to the present. The lecture starts at 15.30 in It Kofjelokaal of Museum Joure. The story begins with a small Tjalk and continues through the stagecoach and steamboat, among other things, eventually to the bus. Melle's bus museum is located in Ruigahuizen. There are hundreds of models of DAF trucks and ZWH buses on display. In addition, there are many showcases with all kinds of material related to transportation. The collection kept growing and led to a small museum at home, During his youth Melle traveled to school by ZWH bus. Years later in 2002 he visited a swap meet. There he came across all kinds of material about the ZWH bus. That became the beginning of his collection. A request to record the history of the South West Corner even resulted in a book about the ZWH bus, which he compiled in 2004 with the help of his wife: 'The ZWH bus' . It became a great success. In 2014, his second book, 'With the LABO through North East Friesland' was published. This was followed by a third book at the request of a friend: 'Op reis met de NTM' in 2019.
PS Should there be people who have stuff related to transportation and want to get rid of it, Melle van der Goot is always happy to receive it. You can visit the museum by appointment.
