Lecture 'Gable stones in the Vlecke Joure'

Piet Postma, author of the book "Gevelstenen in de Vlecke Joure," will hold a lecture/presentation Sunday afternoon, April 23, at 2:30 p.m. in the Kofjelokaal of Museum Joure. Tickets can be ordered below.

In Joure, several gable stones have been preserved containing a year, sometimes also with the word Anno in front of it. There are also proportionally very many so-called 'first stones', on which a date is mentioned and the name of the person who laid the first stone, often a family member. Joure does not have very many gable stones with a special image of a profession or of the (former) destination of the building. But walking through the old center you can nevertheless make one nice discovery after another. Finds that, on closer inspection, tell more about the special history of Joure.
