DEMONSTRATIONS OF TRADITIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP
20 augustus 2015 13:30 - 16:30
Experience the passion of the craftsman in Museum Joure
Smell the smell of ink, freshly roasted coffee and dûmkes (Frisian biscuit). Hear the hammering of the coppersmith and silversmith. See the precision of the clockmaker and admire the ingenious teapacking machine. A feast for the senses. Every Thursday in July and August, craftsmen demonstrate their craftsmanship in Museum Joure from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Children and the elderly can make their own teabag, grind coffee beans, hammer their name and print a bookmark. The swings hang in the garden.
The tea packer in the Entrance Building with his machine immediately draws the visitor to himself.
It's altijd again a feast for the eye to see how everything fits together and at the end a teabag with staple and string comes out. In the print shop tell printers with love about their trade. They let the old typesetting and printing machines rattle and guide the visitor through the printing of their own bookmark.
The clock maker turns behind his authentic wooden lathe the pillars for the bells. On the walls are clocks that shine with the attention they get from the craftsman.
How a silver wire is pulled and how best to polish the silver leaves the silversmith see. About Klaas Dijkstra from Sneek, who produced copper gifts for Douwe Egberts around 1930, the coppersmith in the former coppersmith's shop at Dijkstra.
Finally, coffee is roasted from the very best green Arabica beans. How that goes explains the coffee roaster out. With the coffee comes a delicious homemade Frisian biscuit, a dûmke, that the baker fried with great care. In Museum Joure, visitors experience the passion and enthusiasm of professionals.
