Demonstrations of traditional craftsmanship

18 augustus 2016 13:30 - 16:30

Experience the passion of the craftsman!
Smell the smell of ink and freshly roasted coffee. Hear the hammering of the coppersmith and silversmith. See the precision of the clockmaker and admire the ingenious teapacking machine. And let your kids make a teabag, grind coffee beans and rock. Every Thursday in July and August, craftsmen demonstrate their craftsmanship in Museum Joure from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

Every Thursday real craftsmen at work!
On 7, 14, 21 and 28 July and on 4, 11, 18 and 25 August, in Museum Joure, the craftsmen are ready to show you the old trade.

  • It is always a feast for the eye to see how the tea packer makes the tea machine run. All the cogs interlock to make a teabag with staple and string.
  • In the print shop, printers tell with love about their profession. They rattle the old typesetting and printing machines and guide the visitor through the printing of their own bookmark.
  • The clockmaker turns the pillars for the bells behind his authentic wooden lathe.
  • The silversmith tells about Klaas Dijkstra from Sneek, who produced copper gifts for Douwe Egberts around 1930, how a silver wire is drawn and how the silver can best be polished, while hammering the coppersmith in the former coppersmith's shop in Dijkstra.
  • Finally, coffee is roasted from the very best green Arabica beans. The coffee roaster explains how this is done.
  • With the coffee comes a delicious home-baked Frisian biscuit, a dûmke, which the baker bakes with great care. In Museum Joure, visitors experience the passion and enthusiasm of professionals.

For the demonstration days, you do not pay a surcharge, but the normal entrance fee to the museum (€ 6.50 for adults, including a cup of coffee or tea).

(Not every craftsman is present every Thursday afternoon, if you want to know exactly who is there, please inform)
